Box Score PORTLAND – Southern Oregon scored 16 of the final 25 points, taking the lead for good in the final six minutes to knock off Concordia 79-73 in Cascade Collegiate Conference women's basketball action Friday night at Cavalier Gymnasium.
Southern Oregon improves to 13-3 overall and 3-2 with the win, while Concordia falls to 5-8 overall and 0-4 in the CCC. The Raiders return to action Saturday night, taking on Warner Pacific at 5:30 p.m.
Melissa Sweat (Bakersfield, Calif./Stockdale) scored a game-high 28 points to go with six rebounds and four steals.
Allison Gida (Ashland, Ore./Ashland) tallied 14 points, while
Angelica Cahee (Oroville, Calif./) finished with 12 points and
Alexi Smith (Bakersfield, Calif./Stockdale) added 11 in the win. Gabi Beyer led Concordia with 14 points, while Kelly Huey posted a double-double with 13 points and 10 rebounds to go with five assists. Grace Cappleman finished with 11 points, and Caitlyn McCutcheon and Randi McReynolds each added 10.
Neither team led by more than eight points as the game featured five tie scores and 15 lead changes. Concordia scored nine of the first 13 points to claim its largest lead of the game in the opening minutes, but the Raiders rallied back with a 22-10 run to pull ahead by seven with 6:56 remaining in the first half.
The Cavaliers tied it up with 2:19 to play before the break when a McReynolds free throw made it 30-30. A jumper by Huey pushed the Cavs up by one 36-35 going into halftime, and Concordia again pushed its lead to five points following a Beyer jumper five minutes into the second period.
Southern Oregon responded with a 6-0 run to reclaim the lead on a three-pointer by Sweat, and the teams exchanged points for the next seven minutes before a Smith layup put the Raiders up for good with 6:08 to play. The made basket came as part of a seven-point run that turned a one-point deficit into a six-point advantage in the final five minutes. The Raiders' lead bounced between four and eight points the rest of the way.
