Box Score REDDING, Calif. – Southern Oregon outscored Simpson by 26 points in the second half to pull away to a 92-60 women's basketball nonconference victory over the Red Hawks Saturday afternoon.
Southern Oregon improves to 11-1 overall this season and will travel to Vallejo tomorrow for a 12 p.m. matchup with California Maritime.
Melissa Sweat (Bakersfield, Calif./Stockdale) connected on 12 of 20 shot attempts to score a game-high 27 points and added seven rebounds.
Allison Gida (Ashland, Ore./Ashland) tallied 18 points, seven rebounds, six steals and four assists.
Alexi Smith (Bakersfield, Calif./Stockdale) finished with 14 points and
Haley Newell (Santa Monica, Calif./) added 10 points and five steals.
Nichole Jones led Simpson with 21 points and Tiffany Aaserude totaled 16 points. Southern Oregon shot 43.2 percent (38-of-88) while limiting Simpson to 33.3 percent shooting (22-of-66). The Raiders out-rebounded the Red Hawks 54-39 and forced 35 turnovers in the win.
The first half featured eight tie scores and four lead changes before the Raiders closed the period on a 12-4 run to take a 43-37 lead into halftime. A 12-point streak early in the second half pushed SOU's advantage to 20 points, and the Raiders closed out the game on a 25-9 run to earn the 32-point victory.
