Box Score ATHERTON, Calif. – Southern Oregon scored the first two goals, but Menlo tied it up in the second half and scored the game-winner in overtime to knock off the Raiders 3-2 in a nonconference women's soccer contest Sunday afternoon.

The loss drops Southern Oregon's record to 4-3-1, while Menlo improves to 6-2 with the win. Southern Oregon returns to action Sept. 28, when the Raiders host Evergreen in the 2012 Cascade Collegiate Conference opener at 3 p.m.

“First, you have to credit Menlo,” SOU head coach Jon Clement said. “They're an extremely hardworking team and they never gave up. Their goalkeeper did a great job and came up with some nice saves.”

Southern Oregon got on the board early, as Sydney Paulsen (Loveland, Colo./Thompson Valley) took a pass from Chloe Welch (Petaluma, Calif./Casa Grande) and knocked it in within the first 10 minutes to give the Raiders a 1-0 lead. Less than 10 minutes later Julie Zamzow (Boise, Idaho/Bishop Kelly) made it 2-0 with an unassisted goal.

Natalie Ingram pulled Menlo within one late in the first half, scoring off a pass from Ali Hammond. The Oaks' second goal came about 15 minutes into the second period, an unassisted goal by Erika Savela. Jocelyn Aguilar scored the game-winner in the fifth minute of overtime.

“We all feel that when you're winning 2-0 it's a game you should win, but against a hardworking team you need to score the third goal,” Clement said. “We're disappointed, but we know these are things that we can fix.”

Southern Oregon outshot Menlo 17-7 for the match, including an 11-2 advantage in the opening period. Menlo goalkeeper Whitney Galindo saved 13 SOU shots, including eight in the first half.
