No. 20 College of Idaho takes down Southern Oregon 85-73

Box Score CALDWELL, Idaho – College of Idaho led by as many as 20 points in the second half as the 20th-ranked Coyotes defeated Southern Oregon 85-73 in Cascade Collegiate Conference women's basketball action Friday night at J.A. Albertson Center.

Southern Oregon falls to 15-6 overall and 5-5 in conference play, while College of Idaho improves to 12-6 overall and 8-2 in the CCC. The Raiders return to action Saturday, when they will visit No. 6 Eastern Oregon at 5:30 p.m.

College of Idaho shot 47.8 percent (33-of-69) in the game while limiting Southern Oregon to 36.3 percent (29-80) shooting. Alexi Smith (Bakersfield, Calif./Stockdale) led SOU with 16 points and posted a double-double with 15 rebounds. Carly Meister (Elma, Wash./Elma) earned her second career double-double with 14 points and 10 rebounds. Melissa Sweat (Bakersfield, Calif./Stockdale) finished with 13 points and Allison Gida (Ashland, Ore./Ashland) added 12.

Felicity Jones scored a game-high 23 points, while Dayna Drager added 18. Chakala Carthen finished with 17 points, Katelin Shannon tallied 11 and Laura Geis grabbed 11 rebounds.

College of Idaho scored 10 of the first 12 points before Southern Oregon used a 12-3 run to take a 14-13 lead. Geis made a jumper to put the Yotes back up by one before Smith's layup reclaimed the lead for SOU. That would prove to be SOU's final advantage, as Jones hit a three-pointer at the other end of the court to spark an eight-point streak.

The Yotes stretched their lead to as many as 11 points in the opening half before Southern Oregon pulled within three in the final two minutes before halftime. Five straight points for College of Idaho made it an eight-point game before a pair of Meister free throws sent the teams into the break at 46-40. An eight-point streak midway through the second half gave the hosts an 18-point advantage, and the Raiders never drew closer than 11 back the rest of the way.
