Oregon Tech Women Pull Away from SOU 100-82

Box Score KLAMATH FALLS – Oregon Tech scored 58 second-half points to pull away to a 100-82 Cascade Collegiate Conference women's basketball win over Southern Oregon Saturday night at Danny Miles Court.

Southern Oregon falls to 13-5 overall and 3-4 in conference play, while Oregon Tech improves to 12-5 overall and 5-2 in the CCC. The Raiders return to action Friday, when they will host Evergreen at 5:30 p.m. at Bob Riehm Arena.

Melissa Sweat (Bakersfield, Calif./Stockdale) scored a game-high 32 points to go with seven rebounds for the Raiders, while Allison Gida (Ashland, Ore./Ashland) added 15 points and Alexi Smith (Bakersfield, Calif./Stockdale) finished with 12. Rebekah Matteri led Oregon Tech with 19 points to lead a group of five players who reached double-figures. Maria Ramirez posted a double-double with 11 points and 11 rebounds.

Oregon Tech opened the game on a 7-0 streak, but the Raiders scored the next 11 points to claim an early lead. Southern Oregon's lead climbed to as many as eight points following a Sweat layup just over eight minutes into the game. From that point, OIT used an 11-1 run to pull ahead 25-23. A 12-2 Owl run a minute later pushed the hosts' lead to eight points, and they went into the half with a 42-37 advantage.

The Owls began the second half with another run, scoring 11 of the period's first 15 points to go ahead by 12 points. Southern Oregon rallied back to pull within two points when a Gida jumper made it 55-53 with 12:48 to play. From that point the Owls closed the game on a 45-29 run to clinch the 18-point victory.
