ASHLAND – Before the Southern Oregon University women's soccer team can play for a Cascade Conference championship, it'll first have to stand up to the top-ranked Concordia Cavaliers and a whole lot of history.

The Raiders (10-5-3 overall), who possess the conference's No. 4 seed, made reservations in Portland for Saturday's 1 p.m. semifinal of the CCC Championships presented by U.S. Bank by knocking out fifth-seeded Eastern Oregon, 2-0, on Wednesday at University Field.

Concordia (15-1-1) ran the table against league competition for its 14th straight regular season title. Julie Zamzow (Boise, Idaho/Bishop Kelly)'s goal gave SOU a 1-0 lead during the teams' Oct. 17 game in Ashland, but the Cavaliers came back for a 2-1 win.

The Cavs haven't allowed a goal in five matches since. They've also never lost a CCC tournament game, winning all nine titles, and topped the Raiders 1-0 in last year's semifinals.

"We have to be really good against them all the way through," SOU interim head coach Jenni Rosenberg said. "There can't be a second when we switch off and have a breakdown because they'll take advantage."

SOU will have to take full advantage of any opportunities it gets, too. The goal Zamzow scored was SOU's first against Concordia since 2001, and the Cavaliers are playing their usual stingy defense with a league-best 0.35 goals allowed per game. SOU is second at 0.81.

"Their speed makes it tough to get around the outside with the ball," Rosenberg said. "You have to be a lot more creative attacking against them."

The Cavaliers have three of the CCC's top-five in points:  senior Hannah Kimsey (six goals, 12 assists), junior Ashley Ames (10 goals, one assist) and junior Erin Huisingh (seven goals, five assists). Huisingh and Bobbi Eckler (six goals, four sasists) nipped the Raiders last time around, and Alex Blalock (seven goals, two assists) scored the lone goal of last year's semifinal.

For SOU, Sydney Paulsen (Loveland, Colo./Thompson Valley) fired her team-leading seventh goal for Wednesday's game-winner while Chloe Welch (Petaluma, Calif./Casa Grande) also tallied for the third time in 2013. Julie Zamzow (Boise, Idaho/Bishop Kelly) recorded two assists, giving her 10 points this year, and Danielle Stave (Petaluma, Calif./St Vincent de Paul) added another.

"Our organization was much better in the second half (against EOU)," Rosenberg said. "We were focused and attentive and organized, and that's how you score goals."

The Raiders are getting off 16.1 shots per game compared to Concordia's 22.4. The Cavaliers have turned those into 3.3 goals and the Raiders are averaging 1.9.

CU's 17th-year head coach Grant Landy became the second active coach in the NAIA to reach 300 wins this season. He took the Cavaliers to the NAIA quarterfinals last year and to the finals in 2011.

Corban plays at Northwest in the other semifinal. The winners will play for an automatic bid to the NAIA Championships on Nov. 16.
