Raiders dismiss Corban in 3 for sixth straight win

SALEM – The 10th-ranked Southern Oregon volleyball team skated by Corban again Friday night at the C.E. Jeffers Center, winning its sixth straight overall by scores of 25-16, 25-11 and 25-19.

One of Motade Atanda (San Jose, Calif./Presentation)'s sharpest matches of the season resulted in 18 kills on 34 swings and seven digs. Paulla Pinheiro (Fortaleza, Brazil/Colegio Farias Brito) went for 10 kills and five digs for the Raiders, who improved to 16-3 overall and 10-1 in the Cascade Conference for the first time since 2010.

Corban (5-14, 2-10), which has dropped 24 straight against SOU, never led in the first or third sets and walked into a .010 attacking average – the second-lowest by a Raider opponent this season. The Warriors totaled 24 kills, led by Sloane Morrison's six, and SOU had 43.

The Raiders, set up by Lauren McGowne (Coos Bay, Ore./Marshfield)'s 34 assists, were only blocked four times. Emma Gasman (Clovis, Calif./Buchanan) had six kills and assisted three or SOU's eight blocks.

Brookelynn Cole (Portland, Ore./Central Catholic) and Tyana Andrews (Rochester, Wash./Centralia) steered the back row with dig totals of 14 and 13. The Raiders conceded just two service aces.

In six sets this season, the Raiders outscored Corban 150-85.

They'll be at Northwest Christian for an early 2 p.m. match on Saturday.
