ASHLAND – Alexi Smith (Bakersfield, Calif./Stockdale) and Kristen Schoenherr (Rainier, Wash./Rainier) scored 14 points apiece, leading the Southern Oregon women's basketball team to a 50-percent shooting display and a 76-53 defeat of New Hope Christian on Saturday night at Riehm Arena.
The Raider lead was 53-22 at halftime by way of a 21-for-33 effort. Smith went 7-for-9 in the game, also grabbing 11 rebounds, and Schoenherr went 7-for-11 with five rebounds and four assists. Autumn Durand (Onalaska, Wash./Onalaska) joined them in double figures, going 5-for-8 with 13 points and five assists.
SOU (2-0 overall) held New Hope (0-4) to 33-percent shooting in its second winning effort of the Flagship Inn Classic.
Leading 10-8 four minutes in, the Raiders went on a 16-1 run and outscored the Deacons 26-5 in a 10-minute stretch.
Bree Park (Bellingham, Wash./Meridian) had eight points off the bench and hit one of her two 3-pointers during the run, and Carly Meister (Elma, Wash./Elma) scored all nine of her points in the first half.
New Hope got 11 points each from Kenzie Weston and Sasha Sims.
SOU will stay home for another preseason game at 5:30 p.m. on Tuesday against Simpson.
