Thompson raises SOU scoring bar, Weber logs triple-double in win

FULLERTON, Calif.Eric Thompson (Roseburg, Ore./Roseburg) had 25 points to break Southern Oregon's career scoring record, Tim Weber (Roseburg, Ore./Roseburg) logged another triple-double, and the Raiders defeated 17th-ranked Arizona Christian 84-72 on Saturday afternoon at the Hope International Mid-November Classic.

Thompson ran his career total to 1,919 points to supplant Shea Washington, who set the old bar at 1,910 when he was the NAIA player of the year in 2006. He went 10-for-15 from the field, including 5-for-7 from 3-point range, in helping the 17th-ranked Raiders improve to 4-1 at the expense of their NAIA Division I opponent.

Thompson has scored 25-plus in four of five games this season and on 25 occasions in his career.

Weber's 15 points, 10 assists and 10 rebounds gave him his second triple-double in three games. The senior wing has three games with double-digit assists this season.

The Firestorm was led by Bobby Gray's 19 points and Charles King's 15. Trailing 61-54, they were done in by a 12-3 SOU run capped by Thompson's triple with 6:31 left.

SOU never trailed after Jordan West (Gymea Bay, Australia/Port Hacking)'s 3 put them up 5-4 a few minutes into the game. The Raiders built a 41-34 halftime lead and shot 59 percent (16-for-27) in the second half.

West finished with 17 points and six rebounds, Jacob Kaler (Camas, Wash./Camas Valley) scored 10 and Joel Spear (Adelaide, Australia/St. Michaels) had eight points and six rebounds.

The Raiders shot 53 percent and the Firestorm 39 percent for the game.

SOU will be at Oregon Tech's Midland Empire Classic next week to William Jessup on Friday and California Merced on Saturday. Both games will tip at 3 p.m.
