No. 17 SOU races by Bobcats

KLAMATH FALLS – Fifty-eight percent shooting in the second half allowed the 17th-ranked Southern Oregon men's basketball team to shrug off a slow start against a hapless California Merced squad and win 86-57 Saturday at Oregon Tech's Midland Empire Classic.

Eric Thompson (Roseburg, Ore./Roseburg) again led SOU (6-1 overall) with 22 points on 10-for-19 shooting, Jordan West (Gymea Bay, Australia/Port Hacking) and Brennan Rakoz (Toledo, Wash./Toledo) went home with 11 points and six rebounds each, and Tim Weber (Roseburg, Ore./Roseburg) grabbed 13 rebounds while dishing out five assists.

Merced (0-8) kept it close for a half, trailing 34-27 at the break, but SOU went on a 17-5 run in the first five minutes of the second. Twelve different Raiders made buckets in all, including Joel Spear (Adelaide, Australia/St. Michaels)'s eight point, five-assist effort and Kenny Meyer (Sparks, Nev./Spanish Springs)'s two 3-pointers off the bench.

The Bobcats shot 28 percent (19-for-68) and their leading scorer, Ryan Edwards, needed 19 shots to get his team-high 12 points.

SOU plays Tuesday at Simpson and next weekend at Menlo's tournament, where the Raiders will face California Maritime and Menlo.
