Weber, Raiders skate to 76-61 win at Menlo

ATHERTON, Calif.Tim Weber (Roseburg, Ore./Roseburg) helped the 17th-ranked Southern Oregon men's make up for leading-scorer Eric Thompson (Roseburg, Ore./Roseburg)'s absence with a career-high 23 points in a 76-61 Raider win Saturday at Menlo.

The Raiders are 9-1 for the second straight year heading into their Cascade Conference openers next weekend at Concordia and Warner Pacific.

Playing without Thompson – he of a 26-point per game average who was banged up in Friday's 74-70 win over No. 22 Cal Maritime – the Raiders were initially without answers, going scoreless for six minutes while the Oaks (1-7) built an 11-2 lead. Trailing 19-13, SOU went on a 13-0 run with points from six different players.

Weber went 8-for-11 in leading the team's 27-for-52 performance from the field. He added five rebounds and three assists.

Freshman guard Ben DeSaulnier (Philomath, Ore./Philomath) also stepped up with 13 points on 5-for-8 shooting in his first start. Kenny Meyer (Sparks, Nev./Spanish Springs), another freshman guard, added seven points off the bench as 10 different Raiders had at least four points.

Menlo, which also dropped an 85-61 decision at SOU on Nov. 1, got 22 points out of Mikey Eggleton.

The Raiders, winners of six straight, have shot over 50 percent in three consecutive games.

They'll play Friday at 25th-ranked Concordia, which is unbeaten and will warm up with an exhibition Wednesday at University of Oregon.
