Claussen, Raiders win another exhibition against Metro State

DENVER Ashley Claussen (Scotts Valley, Calif./Santa Cruz) scored 26 points and came through in the clutch to lead the Southern Oregon women's basketball team Saturday to its second exhibition win against an NCAA Division II opponent in as many nights, 88-82 over Metro State.

Claussen went 12-for-12 from the line, and her free throws with 5:09 remaining put the 21st-ranked Raiders ahead for good, 70-68. She extended the lead on SOU's next possession with a layup, and on the possession after that she drilled a 3-pointer.

Kristen Schoenherr (Rainier, Wash./Rainier) scored 24 points and grabbed six boards for the Raiders. Alexi Smith (Bakersfield, Calif./Stockdale) went for 15 points and seven rebounds, and Autumn Durand (Onalaska, Wash./Onalaska) had eight points and nine boards.

Deni Jacobs was 11-for-15 with 28 points to lead Metro State.

Claussen, Schoenherr and Carly Meister (Elma, Wash./Elma) were named to the Metro State Tipoff Classic's all-tournament team.

The Raiders will bring their 3-0 record back home next Sunday to play another nonleague game against Pacific Union.
