Weber picks apart Merced with 15 assists in SOU's 94-71 win

MERCED, Calif. – The 16th-ranked Southern Oregon men's basketball team followed up its lowest-scoring game in 31 years with an offensive exhibition Saturday night in a 94-71 win at University of California Merced.

Senior forward Tim Weber (Roseburg, Ore./Roseburg) was just short of his third triple-double of the season with 11 points, 15 assists and nine rebounds for the Raiders, who improved to 11-2 overall. His 15 assists were the third-highest total in Raider history and the most since Scott Johnson dished out 16 in 1991.

After sitting out the first half, Eric Thompson (Roseburg, Ore./Roseburg) unloaded with 20 points in the second on 7-for-8 shooting, making all four of his 3-point tries. The Raiders led by as many as 12 points in the first half but were only up 38-34 at the break.

Jordan West (Gymea Bay, Australia/Port Hacking) and Ben DeSaulnier (Philomath, Ore./Philomath) scored 12 apiece and Gary Melvin (Sacramento, Calif./Jesuit) had 11 for SOU, which was rebounding from a loss at Warner Pacific in which it scored just 42 points. West and Melvin also collected eight rebounds each, while DeSaulnier was 4-for-4 from the floor.

Joel Spear (Adelaide, Australia/St. Michaels) contributed five steals and six assists, helping the Raiders shoot 53 percent (34-for-64) as a team. Thirty-one of SOU's 34 makes were assisted.

Joshua Kimble shot 10-for-16 and had 28 points off the bench for the Bobcats (1-13), who also lost to SOU 86-57 on Nov. 22 in Klamath Falls.

The Raiders return home next weekend for the first time since Nov. 4 to play their Cascade Conference home openers Friday against Eastern Oregon (9-2) and Saturday against second-ranked College of Idaho (13-1). Both games tip at 7:30 p.m.
