ASHLAND – Southern Oregon University's men's and women's soccer teams will visit Oregon Tech this Friday in two games with major Cascade Conference postseason implications.

In the first game at 4:30 p.m., the red-hot Raider women (6-7-2 overall, 5-3 CCC) will face the Owls (5-7-1, 3-5) with the chance to clinch their sixth straight playoff appearance with a win. SOU has won five of its last six, including four straight on the road, and another would give the Raiders a five-game CCC road win streak for the first time since 2003.

The 7 p.m. men's contest will feature two teams needing to finish strong to get into the eight-team tournament field. SOU (9-6, 4-6) and OIT (6-8, 4-6) are currently tied for the eighth spot, but have played two more games than ninth-place Carroll (3-3-1 CCC).

Both SOU teams have two conference contests remaining after this weekend, Oct. 23 and 24 against Carroll and Great Falls at Raider Stadium. The entire CCC tournament will be hosted by Northwest Christian in Eugene, Nov. 11-14.

Women's Notes:

– SOU is one of five teams with five conference victories. Carroll and Rocky Mountain are both 5-1-1, while Eastern Oregon and College of Idaho are 5-1.

– The Raiders and Owls met in a nonleague game Sept. 3 at Raider Stadium, as SOU's Kylie Durant and OIT's Cassidy Gosvener scored in a 1-1 draw. SOU leads the all-time series, 17-7-2, and won five of the last six prior to this season by a combined score of 15-3.

– SOU's wins last weekend were notable for a few reasons: In Friday's 5-0 win at Evergreen, four goals came off the bench (including two by Yvonne Valencia) – the most in program history. Saturday's 2-1 overtime win at preseason CCC favorite Northwest ended a three-year scoreless drought and a six-game winless drought against the Eagles, and was the Raiders' first OT win in their last 10 tries.

Allyson Ward had the game-winner against Northwest off a corner by Lisa Elledge, her team-best fifth goal of the season.

Men's Notes:

– Friday's meeting will be the first-ever between SOU and OIT. The Owls, led by Casey Oltman's nine goals, are in the middle of an impressive turnaround after going 2-16 overall and 1-13 in the CCC last season.

– The Raiders were shut out last weekend at Evergreen and Northwest for the third and fourth times during conference play.

Brendan Allen still leads the team in goals with seven, including four with two assists in CCC action.

– Diego Buenrostro has recorded three of his five goals in conference play, but Ahmon Afenegus is second in the team in points with four goals and five assists.

– OIT ranks third in the CCC in shots per game (15.4) and SOU ranks seventh (13.3).

– Twenty-seven of SOU's 33 total goals have been recorded by freshmen, as have 17 of its 23 assists.
