Ward wins another for Raiders with lone goal at Oregon Tech

KLAMATH FALLSAllyson Ward and the Southern Oregon University women's soccer team have made it safe to say they're getting comfortable making heady plays in the final moments of tight games.

The Raiders stayed on one of the best roles in program history Friday, winning their third straight and for the sixth time in seven games with a 1-0 decision at Oregon Tech that was sealed in the 88th minute when Ward took Serena Robertson's cross in the box and headed it in for the lone goal.

SOU improved to 7-7-2 overall and 6-3 in the Cascade Conference to secure a spot in the eight-team CCC playoffs with two regular-season games remaining. The Raiders have won five in a row on the road for the first time since 2003.

They executed similar theatrics last Saturday in a 2-1 double-overtime victory at Northwest. There, Ward popped a header into the back of the net in the 108th minute to upset the defending conference champs.

The latest goal was Ward's team-high sixth of the season, third game-winner and third in SOU's last five outings. The assist marked Robertson's first career point.

SOU has now shut out four conference opponents, all belonging to keeper Kylie Moltzen. She made seven saves against the Owls, including four in the second half.

The Raiders' last seven opponents have combined to score just three goals.

OIT dropped to 5-8-1 overall and 3-6 in the CCC. The teams tied 1-1 in a nonleague contest Sept. 3 in Ashland, but the Raiders have won the last four meetings in Klamath Falls.

The Raiders had a 15-11 advantage in shots and put six on goal.

They'll wrap up CCC play at Raider Stadium next week, Friday against Carroll and Saturday against Great Falls. Both games start at 7:30 p.m.
