No. 16 SOU sweeps Corban to claim second place

SALEM – The 16th-ranked Southern Oregon University volleyball team clinched second place in the Cascade Conference on the final day of the regular season Saturday with a 25-20, 25-17, 25-16 drubbing of Corban at the C.E. Jeffers Center.

The Raiders (24-3 overall, 17-3 CCC) put together another sterling attack with a .346 hitting average, led by Lauren McGowne's 37 assists and Corynn Kopra's 12 kills and 10 digs.

Corban (14-12, 12-8), which defeated Oregon Tech in straight sets Friday, hit just .132 and never led in the second or third set.

With the No. 2 seed in the Cascade Conference tournament, the Raiders will get a bye to the semifinals along with league champion Eastern Oregon, which will host the last two rounds next Friday and Saturday in La Grande.

Tyana Andrews contributed 10 kills with just one error and seven digs. Niki Small was in on five of the team's eight blocks, while Emma Gasman (9) and Laura Morse (8) combined for 17 kills.

The first set was tied at 15 before back-to-back Andrews kills put the Raiders in control for the rest of the night. They scored the first three points of the second set, and Andrews served them to eight straight to start the third.

SOU, which was also helped by Ashlyn Flynn's 17 digs, had a sideout percentage of 67 (37-of-55).

The Raiders, who celebrated head coach Josh Rohlfing's 200th win Friday at Northwest Christian, have equaled their win total from a year ago and have now won at least 24 matches 19 times in program history, including five times in the last nine seasons.

They swept 12 of their 17 CCC victories.
