Southern Oregon's streak ends in Redding

REDDING, Calif. – Southern Oregon's recently-hot bats were held in check Friday afternoon in two losses at Simpson University – 7-0 against 10th-ranked Simpson, and 5-4 against William Jessup in eight innings.

SOU, which was working on a six-game win streak going into the weekend, fell to 16-6.

Simpson's Paris Hallums became the first pitcher to shut out the Raiders this season as she threw a four-hitter in the opener while the Redhawk lineup backed her up with 10 hits. Simpson scored five times to take a 7-0 lead in the second inning, but all five were unearned courtesy of three Raider errors.

Ryan Norton went 2-for-3 with two runs and Marissa Bravos hit a two-run triple for the Redhawks.

Cortney Nolan (Twin Falls, Idaho/Twin Falls) and Tyler Burke (Lakewood, Calif./Lakewood) both doubled for the Raiders. Brianne Craig (Rialto, Calif./Etiwanda) also pitched four innings of one-hit relief, striking out three without a walk.

William Jessup nipped SOU in walk-off fashion in the nightcap as Taylor Renowden singled in Stephanie Rodriguez with two outs in the eighth.

The Warriors rallied to tie the game, 4-4, with two runs in the sixth. SOU starter Cheyenne Bricker (Bieber, Calif./Big Valley) gave up four runs in six innings, but only two of them were earned.

Kelsey Randall (Concord, Calif./Concord) went 2-for-4 with a run and an RBI, and Alexa Gonzalez (Menifee, Calif./Heritage) was 2-for-3 with an RBI for the Raiders.

SOU will play the same teams in the same order on Saturday at 9 a.m. and 11 a.m.
