SALEM – Southern Oregon couldn't slow down first-place Corban's recent roll Friday, as the Warriors launched five home runs to sweep the Raiders 10-2 and 11-2 in Cascade Conference play at Warrior Field.
Annie Owen's was the first – a game-tying solo shot in the fifth inning of the opener to start a seven-run rally. The Warriors (23-5 overall, 7-1 CCC) blew open the second game when, in the third inning, Kyrianna Sorensen deposited a three-run homer and Jamie Costa followed with a two-run shot three batters later.
SOU dropped to 20-12 overall and 1-3 in circuit play going into Saturday's doubleheader at Northwest Christian. First pitch is scheduled for 11 a.m.
Both contests ended in the sixth innings with the eight-run rule in effect. Corban's Emily Buhrkul completed the first, allowing five hits and four walks for two earned runs, and Jessica Holsinger tossed a three-hitter in the second with six strikeouts and one walk.
Kristin Ahern (Anaheim Hills, Calif./Rosary) hit her third homer for the Raiders, a solo shot over the fence in center field for a 2-1 lead in the fifth. In the bottom of that inning, Corban had five hits and took advantage of four walks.
Danielle Ackerman went 3-for-4 in Game 1 with a double, two runs and two RBIs, and Sorensen tacked on a solo homer in the sixth. Cheyenne Bricker (Bieber, Calif./Big Valley) took the loss, surrendering five runs in 4 2/3 innings of work.
Corban registered 10 more hits in Game 2, which Anne Binschus ended with a three-run homer. Binschus also hit an RBI double. Sydney White (Clovis, Calif./Clovis West) was the pitcher of decision for SOU.
SOU's Megan Scherer (Oakland, Calif./Bishop O'Dowd) had two hits with a double and an RBI in Game 1 and Tyler Burke (Lakewood, Calif./Lakewood) had two hits in Game 2.
The Warriors have won seven straight games and 11 of their last 12.
