Yizar's goals lift College of Idaho over SOU, 2-1

CALDWELL, Idaho – College of Idaho's Jamiece Yizar took over the Cascade Conference women's soccer opener early and Southern Oregon's second-half try fell short in a 2-1 loss at Simplot Stadium.

Yizar scored twice in the first 27 minutes, pumping the Coyotes' record to 5-1 overall even though they didn't put a shot on goal in the second half.

In the 20th minute, Yizar received a through-ball and drove it home from the side of the box, and seven minutes later Hailey Boyd led Yizar with a long pass to the corner and she took advantage of a one-on-one matchup with her sixth goal of the season.

Lisa Elledge scored for the second time this season in the 53rd minute with a short liner from left of the goal for the Raiders (1-4-2).

C of I keeper Brittany Houghton recorded three of her five saves in the second half. Her save of Macaylea Mitchell's 18-yard turnaround shot with just over three minutes left was SOU's last serious threat.

The Raiders had 10 shots to C of I's nine (five on goal). Megan Kapp put two on goal for the Raiders.

They'll try again in another CCC match at Rocky Mountain (Mont.) at 11 a.m. PT on Sunday.
