Raiders battle No. 14 Corban, but lose 1-0

SALEM – Playing for the first time against a nationally-ranked team, the Southern Oregon men's soccer team proved to be a worthy opponent but failed to locate the net in a 1-0 loss to No. 14 Corban on Friday evening at Warrior Field.

The NAIA Network Game of the Week was decided in the 65th minute, when Nathaniel Cheney's corner kick was directed into goal on a header by Nic Farr. The goal was Farr's fourth of the season.

SOU made a valiant last-gasp attempt, when a throw-in with 10 seconds remaining resulted in a shot just outside the left box from Brett Butler that flew high.

Corban (8-0 overall, 3-0 Cascade Conference), which was the CCC preseason favorite, has yet to allow a goal this season. The Warriors are off to a program-best start.

The Raiders dropped to 7-3 overall and 2-3 in the circuit with another CCC game coming 7 p.m. Saturday at Northwest Christian.

They got seven shots off but Brendan Allen had the only shot on goal, and Jordan Farr saved it for his eighth shutout.  SOU keeper Tyler Luebbert made four saves, as the Warriors had 18 total shots and a 5-4 advantage in corners.

The game featured 26 fouls and five yellow cards, including three issued to SOU.
