Meyer, Raiders heat up for 88-74 win over Geoducks

ASHLAND – Sophomore guard Kenny Meyer jolted the Southern Oregon men's basketball team awake on a sleepy Sunday afternoon at Mountain Avenue Gym, leading to another Cascade Conference victory.

Meyer scored all 13 of his points, including two 3-pointers and a three-point play in transition, during the first five minutes of the second half of the 18th-ranked Raiders' 88-74 win over Evergreen State. SOU led 36-30 at halftime before starting the second stanza on a 15-2 run, opening up a lead that would later balloon to 23 points.

A weekend sweep of the Washington schools made the Raiders 17-5 overall and 10-2 in the CCC – still a game back of first-place Northwest Christian and a game up on third-place Warner Pacific. They'll visit WPC and Multnomah next weekend in Portland.

Jordan West led all scorers with 25 points and nine rebounds. He shot 9-of-18 from the field and the Raiders were 33-of-67 as a team despite misfiring on 15 of their first 19 attempts.

Ben DeSaulnier contributed 14 points, five assists and four rebounds, and Joel Spear had 12 points, five rebounds, four assists and two blocks. Clay Sierra had eight points, nine rebounds and six assists, and Meyer added six rebounds and two steals.

The Raiders improved to 8-0 at home this season.

The Geoducks (8-13, 5-8) struggled from the field all game long but still had a 19-17 lead with seven minutes left in the first half. The Raiders started a 10-2 run at that point and never looked back, holding the Geoducks to 39-percent shooting.

Evergreen forward Danny Powell registered 20 points and 13 rebounds, and Brock Otis scored 19.

Justin Martin chipped in eight points with a couple 3-pointers for the Raiders. Martin, Meyer and DeSaulnier combined to go 5-for-11 from downtown after going 0-for-11 in Saturday's 83-82 win against Northwest.

SOU has won 10 straight against Evergreen and has now won at least 10 CCC games in five straight seasons.
