Raiders clamp down on Beacons for eighth straight win

EUGENE – Northwest Christian couldn't find its way around fifth-ranked Southern Oregon's defense, and another balancing act on offense pushed the Raiders to a 79-57 Cascade Conference win Saturday night at the Morse Events Center.

For the fifth straight game, the Raiders (8-1 overall, 2-0 CCC) put four players in double figures: Autumn Durand had 14 points, six rebounds and four steals, Majerle Reeves scored all 12 of hers on 3-pointers, Demi Sahlinger had 10 points and five rebounds, and Toria Bradford went for 10 points and three steals.

SOU shot 48 percent (29-of-61) from the field and 10-for-24 from 3-point range. On the other end, the Beacons (4-5, 1-1) made 20 of 55 attempts from the field to become the eighth straight Raider opponent to land under 40 percent.

SOU's 41-35 halftime lead was the product of 20 points off turnovers, the majority of which were generated on eight Raider steals. They kept the pressure on in the third quarter, where the Beacons bricked nine of their 10 field-goal attempts.

After Jenna Christenson's 3-pointer that trimmed SOU's advantage to 45-38 with 6:06 left in the third quarter, the Beacons went eight minutes without a field goal. During that time, SOU assembled a 21-4 run that blew the game open.

Durand, Sahlinger and Toria Bradford scored six points apiece in that span, combing to shot 8-for-12.

The Raiders have won eight straight overall. Dating back to last season, they've triumphed in six consecutive conference road games.

They'll come home, for the first time this season, next Saturday and Sunday to host Evergreen and Northwest in CCC tilts. Before that, they'll remain up north to play Western Oregon on Monday for the teams' first matchup in 10 years.

Katerina Brejchova had a team-high 10 points for the Beacons. Their top scoring threat, Monique Thompson, was limited to eight points on 3-of-8 shooting.
