No. 17 Hope International buries SOU early, stays unbeaten

FULLERTON, Calif. – Southern Oregon's hellacious week and tour of the Golden State Athletic Conference ended on an ugly note Saturday night in a 73-48 loss at 17th-ranked Hope International.

The Raiders – whose week started Monday at Oregon State and didn't get much easier Friday against fourth-ranked Biola (Calif.) – were unable to overcome another size disadvantage in the frontcourt. Liam Hunt, a 7-foot senior center, kept the Lions (6-0 overall) undefeated with 18 points, 13 rebounds and nine assists, leading five players in double figures.

Hope, an NAIA Division I power, shot 17-of-24 from the field in the first half on its way to a 50-17 halftime lead. It shot 8-of-28 in the second.

SOU (6-4) was led by Ben DeSaulnier's 11 points and six rebounds, Tate Hoffman's eight points and six boards and Jason Simmrin's seven points and three boards. They struggled all over the court in the first half, but most notably the 3-point line, where they were 0-for-13.

The Raiders will wipe their slate clean next week for the start of Cascade Conference play, Friday at Corban and Saturday at Northwest Christian.
