CASCADE CONFERENCE CHAMPIONSHIPS – SEMIFINAL ROUND
7 p.m. Friday – #5 SOU (1) vs. Northwest Christian (4)Live Stats | Live Stream

ASHLAND – From its speed and shooting ability on the perimeter to its stable of versatile and unrelenting bodies in the post, the constant matchup problems created by fifth-ranked Southern Oregon make it no wonder that the Raiders have specialized in robbing opponents of any and all joy.

However, if there is another Cascade Conference roster capable of creating similar problems based on size alone, it's Northwest Christian's. And with three players standing 6-foot-1 or taller in tow, the fourth-seeded Beacons (19-11 overall) will come to town attempting to slow down the top-seeded Raiders (27-1) in the semifinal round of the CCC Championships presented by U.S. Bank.

Tipoff is scheduled for 7 p.m. Friday at Ashland High's Mountain Avenue Gym and the winner advances to Monday's 7 p.m. title game, which will be hosted by the highest remaining seed. Second-seeded Oregon Tech (24-7) hosts No. 3 seed Eastern Oregon (21-9) in the other semifinal.

Quarterfinals in Review: All four higher seeds advanced in Tuesday's quarterfinals, including SOU with an 87-50 win over College of Idaho. With C of I in slow-down mode and both teams struggling offensively, the game was scoreless through the first five minutes and tied at 10 after one quarter. But SOU's bench came through with 57 points – Majerle Reeves made six 3-pointers for 18 points and Courtney Setzer had 16 – as all five starters were held under 10 points for the first time all season but helped the Raiders run away by starting the second quarter on a 13-2 run and the third on an 11-1 run.

The Beacons' 68-56 elimination of fifth-seeded Corban was not as routine as the final score indicates; they trailed 38-23 at halftime before holding the Warriors to 3-of-27 shooting in the second half. Hanna Mack led the way with 13 points, 10 rebounds, four assists and four blocks, and Andrea Gloss had 13 points and three blocks.

Playoff Picture: By winning their first regular-season title since 2008, the Raiders have already secured a spot in the 32-team national tournament from March 9-15 in Sioux City, Iowa, for the second year in a row. If the Raiders advance on Friday, they'll host the title game for the first time since 2008, when they won their fifth (and most recent) CCC tournament championship. If the Raiders win the title, the CCC's second automatic berth to the national tournament would go to No. 2 seed Oregon Tech.

Head-to-Head: SOU won two regular-season matchups with NCU, but the Beacons made both of them semi-interesting. On Dec. 6 in Ashland, Autumn Durand's season-high 28 points boosted SOU to an 88-70 win, but the Beacons forced a tie in the third quarter and came closer to beating the Raiders at home than all but one other opponent (OIT) this season. Last Friday in Eugene, SOU won 55-42 but was held to a season-low point total. The Beacons forced 27 turnovers but shot just 29 percent from the field, and their three 6-footers (Mack, Gloss and Chandler Gabrio) combined for seven blocks but also 3-of-20 shooting.

SOU leads the all-time series, 16-3, but the teams have never met in the postseason.

Quick Hits:
