Six hit double figures as No. 7 SOU bullies Wolves

ASHLAND – Two teams on opposite ends of the Cascade Conference women's basketball standings performed as expected Saturday night in seventh-ranked Southern Oregon's 111-33 win against the winless Walla Walla Wolves at Mountain Avenue Gym.

The first-place Raiders hit the century mark for the seventh time this season – adding onto their school record – and the fourth time in five games. They scored the first 15 points of the first quarter, the first 18 of the second quarter and the first 23 of the third to go to 21-1 overall and 14-1 in the CCC.

SOU's margin of victory was the largest in team history. The previous record had been established on Jan. 10, at Walla Walla, in a 75-point win.

Freshman post Courtney Setzer led the way off the bench with 17 points, nine rebounds and three assists. Five other Raiders scored 12 points apiece: Ashley Claussen, Erin Houston, Carly Meister, Majerle Reeves and Emily Peters. The six who scored in double figures also shot a combined 28-for-42 from the field, leading the Raiders to a team percentage of 54 (46-of-86). Thirty-two of those baskets were assisted, the second-highest total of the season.

Kristin Smeaton added a team-high 10 rebounds with six points, five assists and five steals. Toria Bradford also had five steals off the bench, and SOU's reserves had 72 points total.

The Wolves went to 0-21 overall and 0-14 in the CCC.

The win set the stage for Tuesday's rivalry game between the Raiders and 25th-ranked Oregon Tech, which is one game behind SOU in the standings. Tipoff is set for 5:30 p.m. in Ashland, and next Saturday the Raiders will host three-time defending conference champion Eastern Oregon, which is responsible for SOU's only loss this season.

SOU has won 18 consecutive CCC home games dating back to 2013-14. The Raiders' seven CCC wins at home this season have been decided by an average of 44.4 points.
