COLUMBIA, Ky.
 – The battery of Sydney White and Nicole Cardoza kept third-seeded Southern Oregon's season alive Tuesday afternoon, at least for a few more hours, by leading a 6-0 defeat of fourth-seeded Ashford (Iowa) in the first elimination game of the NAIA Opening Round's Lindsey Wilson Bracket.

White (15-10) retired the first 16 Saints she faced and completed a two-hitter with eight strikeouts and no walks for her third shutout of the season. Cardoza went 2-for-3 and lifted her third home run of the season over the fence in right-center field with two outs in the fourth inning, a two-run shot that put the Raiders up 3-0.

The Raiders (37-17 overall) scored the game's first run on Alexa Gonzalez's run-scoring double in the third and added three more runs in the sixth on RBI singles from Megan Winton and Abigail Lund and a fielder's choice off the bat of Aaliyah Oliver. Winton and Oliver both went 2-for-3, just as they did in the tournament opener.

The 21st-ranked Raiders – who lost Monday's opener against second-seeded and 17th-ranked Marian, 6-4 – moved on to play another elimination game at approximately 3:15 PDT Tuesday against top-seeded and sixth-ranked host Lindsey Wilson (Ky.). The winner will advance to Wednesday's championship round against Marian, needing two straight wins over the Knights to advance to the 10-team NAIA World Series.

The loss effectively closed the books on Ashford (30-24), whose Clinton, Iowa campus shut down at the end of the school year earlier this month.
