Raiders heat up in second half to down William Jessup, 3-0

ASHLAND – Though it took a little longer to find on Monday night, the Southern Oregon University women's soccer team continued to gain steam in a 3-0 win against William Jessup (Calif.) at Raider Stadium.

In a span of 15 minutes during the second half, SOU got all of its goals from Lauren Aldana, Megan McArthur and Facienne Graham on assists by McArthur, Presley Lambert and Makena Totushek. The Raiders, who are 3-0 for the first time in the team's 17-year history, have outscored their opponents 11-1 this season.

William Jessup went to 1-3.

Both teams were inches away from getting on the board earlier. In the 53rd minute, William Jessup's Michelle Sandage hit the right post with a shot, and eight minutes later Aldana took a slick lead pass from McArthur and hit the left post with a straight-on opportunity.

Aldana – who earlier Monday was named the Cascade Conference's offensive player of the week for her two-goal performance in Saturday's defeat of UC Merced – avenged her miss in the 66th minute, when McArthur sent a cross her way from the right corner for a centered 15-yard strike.

In the 68th, Lambert and Totushek hooked up McArthur with a short-corner cross from left to right that resulted in McArthur's third goal of the season – a point-blank drive into the net that put the Raiders up 2-0.

Graham finished it off in the 80th minute when she dribbled out of a scrum into open field and juked the goalkeeper for a pretty left-to-right score that was her second in three games.

SOU was held back in an odd first half, during which the Raiders were called for 10 of their 14 offside penalties.

Kylie Moltzen was credited with the shutout – her second of the season, bringing her SOU-record total to 16 ½ – and collected four saves. Earlier Monday, she was named the CCC's defensive player of the week after Saturday's seven-save game.

In 11 home games since moving to Raider Stadium in 2014, SOU has allowed zero or one goals 10 times.

The Raiders will finish nonleague play with four straight games against NCAA Division II opponents, starting Friday at Fresno Pacific (Calif.).
