OIT outlasts Southern in second half

ASHLAND -- Oregon Tech beat up Southern Oregon on the offensive glass to the tune of a 19-7 advantage and held the Raiders off for an 80-73 Cascade Conference win Thursday night at Mountain Avenue Gym.

Brandon Halter scored 17 points and Mitchell Fink totaled 16 points, six assists and two steals to lead the Owls (12-5 overall, 5-2 CCC), who broke a 35-all tie and went ahead for good with a 7-0 run capped by a Fink 3-pointer in the opening minutes of the second half.

Another Fink triple, followed by his feed to Tyler Van Kirk in the paint for a layup, put OIT up 69-59 with 7:53 left, but the Raiders got back within striking distance at 76-73 on Conor Carroll's 3-point with a minute to play. After breaking down SOU's pressure, the Owls' Seth Erickson found Andrew Weber on the other end for a game-sealing layup.

Ben DeSaulnier scored a game-high 19 points for SOU but went 6-for-15 and had five turnovers. Kenny Meyer scored 11 of his 16 points in the second half and added four assists off the bench.

OIT had lost in its previous five trips to Ashland.
