Kohler's goal not enough as Eagles trip up SOU late

KIRKLAND, Wash. – Southern Oregon was unable to protect its lead Friday at NU Athletic Field, where Northwest University scored twice in the final 15 minutes to win 2-1 in a Cascade Conference match.

The Raiders (7-6 overall, 4-3 CCC) only got off one shot in the second half after amassing nine in the first. Among them was Cassandra Kohler's 16-yard goal in the 31st minute, the first of the freshman's career, thanks to an assist from Misty Martinez.

SOU's lead lasted until the 76th minute, when Katie Michkiosky hooked up Jaclyn Metz with a clear shot from 17 yards out for the equalizer. Four minutes later, Winter Wirkkala connected on a centered shot from the same distance that was set up by Nadine Huff.

The Eagles went to 6-6 and 3-3 in conference play. Their keeper, Kat Sanchez, recorded six of her seven saves before halftime. SOU's Aislinn Waite and Makena Totushek both put two shots on goal.

Raider keeper Hannah Ceciliani also made seven saves.

The Eagles' goals were the first of the season for Metz and Wirkkala.

SOU plays at Evergreen State at 3 p.m. Saturday.
