Most efficient attack in 5 years leads SOU to sweep of Wolves

ASHLAND – The Southern Oregon University volleyball team made its second sweep of last-place Walla Walla (Wash.) in seven days quick and painless Saturday night at Mountain Avenue Gym.

Freshman middle Elliott Cook starred in SOU's breezy 25-6, 25-14, 25-9 victory with 11 kills on 18 swings and four blocks. She – along with Taylor Ristvedt (9 kills, 13 attacks, 4 blocks), Dani Johnson (9 kills, 18 attacks) and Ariana Sattler (5 kills, 9 attacks) – brought the Raiders to a .462 attacking average, their highest in a single match since the 2012 season.

The Raiders went to 11-7 overall and 8-5 in the Cascade Conference. They stand in sixth place but have the same number of losses as fifth-place Northwest Christian and just one more than the next two teams above them, College of Idaho and Northwest.

For the first time this season, they never trailed in the match and were only tied at one point: 1-1 in the first set.

SOU totaled 43 kills and seven attacking errors. The Wolves (1-18, 0-14) had 16 kills and 17 errors.

Natalie James (21 assists) and Hannah Bogatin (16) combined to set up 37 of those, and Ashlyn Flynn's 19 digs led a back row that also got eight digs from Kylie Barcroft and seven from Kadyn Jones. Emma Ryan matched a career-high with four service aces.

Caldora Blackburn and Jenn Bosler notched four kills each to lead the Wolves.

SOU visits Oregon Tech on Wednesday before returning home next Friday and Saturday to host Multnomah and Warner Pacific. All three matches are slated for 7 p.m. starts.
