Raiders bounce Multnomah in 3

ASHLAND – Southern Oregon continued to hold strong against the weaker half of the Cascade Collegiate Conference on Friday night, cruising to a 25-19, 25-16, 25-22 win against Multnomah University at Mountain Avenue Gym.

The Raiders (13-7 overall, 10-5 CCC) had to rally back from seven points down in the third set but experienced few other problems while attacking .268 behind freshman middles Elliott Cook and Makayla Hoyt, who recorded nine kills each. Hoyt, now the second-most efficient attacker in the conference this season, needed just 11 swings to reach that number, and Cook assisted four of the team's seven blocks.

The Raiders are 8-0 against the five CCC teams with losing conference records. They'd clinch a spot in the six-team conference tournament if they can protect that perfect mark at 7 p.m. Saturday against Warner Pacific. Thanks to a Northwest Christian loss on Friday, they moved into fifth place and are only two losses back of first-place Corban with matches five to play.

Natalie James led SOU with 21 assists and Hannah Bogatin added 12, spreading the ball out to Taylor Ristvedt (7 kills, 3 blocks), Malie Rube (5 kills, 9 attacks) and Dani Johnson (5 kills). In the back, Ashlyn Flynn picked up 13 digs and Kiley Barcroft 11.

With Barcroft serving and Bogatin setting, the Raiders scored 10 straight points in the first set – a flurry in which Hoyt delivered four of her kills – to take a commanding 16-8 lead. They had three blocks during a five-point run in the second set that extended their lead to 20-12, and the Lions ran out of gas after going up in the third, racking up 10 of their 23 attacking errors in the frame.

Multnomah (5-17, 2-13) has lost all six of its meetings with SOU, including five in straight sets. The Lions were led by Sydney Amundsen's 10 kills, Sabrina DeJesus-Bair's 15 digs and Marissa Rhodes' 18 assists.
