Fryer provides spark as Raiders top William Jessup, 70-51

KLAMATH FALLS – With 27 turnovers compared to 16 made shots, William Jessup couldn't hang with Southern Oregon in the Raiders' 70-51 victory on Saturday afternoon at the Lithia-Oregon Tech Classic.

The 15th-ranked Raiders, who stayed perfect at 4-0, were outscored 13-7 and shot 2-of-17 in the first quarter before turning up the pressure. They turned the Warriors (3-3) over eight times in the second quarter and eight more in the third, outscoring them 39-19 in the middle part of the game to skate away with the win.

Freshman Syd'Nee Fryer's 17-point effort, which included 5-of-8 accuracy from 3-point range, sparked SOU off the bench. Remi Mejia turned in her best all-around game yet with 12 points, six rebounds, five assists and four steals, and Toria Bradford joined her in the backcourt with 13 points, four assists and four steals.

The Raiders shot only 25-of-79 from the field, but for the second time in as many days they excelled in other categories to get off plenty of extra shots – piling up a 19-8 advantage on the offensive glass while committing only nine turnovers of their won. The result was 33 more field-goal attempts than totaled by WJU.

Destinee Jones added six points and six rebounds and Kenadee Honaker had four steals, giving her seven for the tournament.

Fryer hit two of her 3-pointers during an 11-2 run in the second quarter and two more at the end of the third to put the Raiders up 46-32.

SOU, which is 4-0 for the sixth time in seven seasons, plays 5 p.m. Wednesday at Linfield. The meeting will be the first between the schools in 20 seasons.
