Raiders' pressure too much for Northwest

KIRKLAND, Wash. – Thanks to its defensive pressure, No. 11 Southern Oregon had no trouble Friday in a 71-52 win against the Northwest Eagles despite a pedestrian shooting night.

The Raiders, who improved to 10-1 overall and 2-1 in the Cascade Conference, forced 33 turnovers – the most for an opponent since the first game of the season – and had a 20-10 edge on the offensive glass to get up 31 more shots than Northwest and negate their 36-percent clip from the field.

Casey Williams went 7-of-10 with 16 points and seven rebounds and Remi Mejia went 7-of-17 with 18 points, eight rebounds and two steals to push the Raider offense. Toria Bradford chipped in eight points, four of the team's 18 steals and three assists, and Delaney Sparling hit a pair of 3-pointers and scored eight points off the bench.

Northwest dropped to 4-7 and 1-2 in the CCC, losing its 12th consecutive meeting with SOU.

The Eagles led 10-9 after one quarter but were outscored 30-15 in the second. Williams shot 4-of-5 in the period and the Raiders went 12-of-20 as a team.

Hannah Carlson had a team-high 12 points for Northwest, which shot 43 percent (19-of-44) overall.

The Raiders wrap up their trip Saturday with a 5:30 p.m. game at Evergreen (Wash.).
