Raiders bounce back with 73-60 win at Evergreen

OLYMPIA, Wash. – A night removed from a double-overtime loss, No. 9 Southern Oregon deployed a balanced offense and 40 minutes of zone defense to keep The Evergreen State at arm's length on Saturday night at the Costantino Recreation Center.

The Raiders secured a split of their Cascade Conference road trip with a 73-60 defeat of the Geoducks, leading for the final 35 minutes of the game to improve to 8-4 overall and 3-1 in the CCC.

Conor Carroll scored 10 of his team-high 14 points in the first half, downing a pair of 3-pointers, and Tristen Holmes scored all 13 of his in the second while tacking on seven assists, seven rebounds and two steals. In the frontcourt, Tate Hoffman went 5-of-6 with 12 points, eight rebounds and two blocks, and Jordan Hunt added 13 points, seven rebounds, three blocks and two steals.

Leading 26-25 with three minutes left in the first half, the Raiders separated themselves with a 12-2 run bookended by Aaron Borich's runner and 3-pointer. Borich chipped in nine points and three assists, and Kenny Meyer joined him off the bench with five assists and two steals.

The Raiders extended their lead to 19 points six minutes into the second half and coasted from there. They shot 45 percent (26-of-58) from the field and recorded 20 assists with just nine turnovers.

Evergreen, which fell to 1-10 and 0-4 a night after taking Oregon Tech down to the wire, found success in the paint with Ryan Quigley (19 points, 6 rebounds) and Jaurence Chisholm (16 points, 9 rebounds) but went 4-of-15 from downtown and only made two free throws. The point total was the lowest for a Raider opponent in two seasons.

The win was SOU's 13th straight against the Geoducks.

The Raiders will play a nonleague game at 2 p.m. Tuesday at William Jessup (Calif.) before returning to CCC action on Dec. 29 in Ashland against 25th-ranked Warner Pacific.
