Southern slips in second half, falls to No. 25 Yotes

CALDWELL, Idaho – The 25th-ranked College of Idaho Yotes wore down Southern Oregon in the second half and heated up for an 87-70 win inside the J.A. Activities Center on Saturday night in Cascade Conference action.

The Yotes (20-8 overall, 13-5 CCC), who maintained a perfect home record in conference play, clinched a top-four seed in the CCC tournament and, therefore, a quarterfinal home date with the win. Tied 44-44 with 15 minutes remaining, they made five straight shots to score 11 unanswered points, a rally capped by Dominique Jordan's 3-pointer.

They hit six of their eight 3-point attempts in the final 12 minutes to keep the distance, brushing the Raiders (17-11, 11-7) off after four Jordan Hunt free throws made it 67-60 at the eight-minute mark. Aitor Zubizarreta and Dominique Jordan went a combined 8-for-13 from outside, Joey Nebeker scored 17, and Emmanuel Morgan tallied 11 points, six assists, four rebounds and two steals.

The score was 33-33 at halftime. After the break, the Yotes shot 21-of-40 and SOU went 12-of-28 with nine turnovers.

Kenny Meyer scored a team-high 13 points for the Raiders, who were without posts Tate Hoffman and Hunter Bradford after they sustained injuries Friday night. Tristen Holmes went for 11 points, six rebounds and four assists, Ben DeSaulnier had 10 points, six rebounds and four assists, Jason Simmrin totaled nine points, seven rebounds and three blocks, and Jordan Hunt scored nine.

The Raiders return to Ashland next weekend, finishing their regular season with sixth-ranked Northwest Christian on Saturday and Corban on Sunday. Eight of their losses have now come against top-25 teams.
