Durand, Williams push Raiders past Yotes

CALDWELL, Idaho – Fifth-ranked Southern Oregon hounded College of Idaho defensively Saturday night, bouncing back from Friday's loss and ending the Yotes' five-game win streak with a 73-56 triumph at the J.A. Activities Center.

Raider forward Autumn Durand dominated with 25 points and nine rebounds and Casey Williams came through with a season-high 17 points on 6-of-8 shooting from the field and 3-of-4 from downtown . But the game was decided on the defensive end, where the Raiders forced 29 turnovers – piling on to the 28 they forced in the teams' first meeting in Ashland – and cornered the Yotes into 35-percent shooting.

SOU (23-3 overall, 16-2 Cascade Conference) remained in a first-place tie with Eastern Oregon, which was a 68-63 winner Saturday against Oregon Tech. The Raiders will come home with a chance to capture at least a share of their second straight CCC title, hosting Northwest Christian next Saturday and Corban on Sunday in the regular-season finales.

Their ninth consecutive win over C of I was in hand for most of the night. Down 12-8 early, the Raiders rattled off a 14-0 helped by six Durand points and led for the final 35-plus minutes. The Yotes cut the lead to 47-44, though with three minutes left in the third before Durand drained a 3-pointer and Demi Sahlinger capped a 7-0 spurt with jumpers on back-to-back possessions.

The Raiders then ran away with a 13-5 run to start the fourth and held C of I to 3-of-10 shooting in the period.

Sydney Mullings chipped in 10 points and six rebounds and Sahlinger had six points, three assists and two steals. SOU overcame 6-for-28 shooting from beyond the arc and shot 40 percent (29-of-72) overall.

Kiara Skinner's 20 points led C of I, but she was one of five Yotes with at least three turnovers.
