HASTINGS, Neb. – The Midwest was no match for Southern Oregon University on Saturday at the Hastings Bronco Duals, where the Raiders stormed past four opponents with 17 wins by fall to improve to 9-2.

By the end of the afternoon, No. 13 SOU defeated Doane (Neb.), 44-12; Northwestern (Iowa), 36-9; York (Neb.), 45-12; and Wayland Baptist (Texas), 49-3. The Raiders notched bonus-point victories in 23 of 34 contests overall (not including six matches their opponents forfeited) and lost just eight of them.

With six duals remaining this season, their final win, against Wayland Baptist, also clinched the program's 48th consecutive winning record.

Junior 149-pounder Chandler Michael won all four of his matches by fall and needed less than a minute to do so in the last three. Ranked 10th in the NAIA, he now owns a team-high 11 pins and a 19-5 record.

Devin Poppen, the reigning Cascade Conference Wrestler of the Week, also stayed hot with pins against all three of his opponents at 141 pounds. The fourth-ranked junior is 10-0 over the last two weeks and 19-4 overall.

Four more Raiders also had perfect outings: 125-pound freshman Trey Long (3-0), 157-pound junior Hunter Hodges (2-0), 184-pound junior Max Hane (4-0) and 197-pound junior Tanner Fischer (2-0). Long's best day yet as a Raider included a pin and a technical fall, and the sixth-ranked Hodges scored bonus points with a pin and a major decision. Hane – who along with Michael was the only Raider to appear in every dual – won twice by fall and twice by technical fall. Fischer protected his No. 3 ranking with SOU's only victories against top-20 individuals, winning by 15-7 major decision against No. 12 Nicholas Null of Northwestern and by 3-2 decision against No. 14 Jack Murphy of York.

Zane Wardwell was sharp at heavyweight, going 3-1 with two pins and a major decision, and C.J. McKinnis went 2-1 with a pin. Micah Arakawa (165), Tanner Canaday (165) and Matt Peterson (133) contributed one win by fall apiece.

SOU started the morning with a season-high seven wins by fall against Doane.

The Raiders will return to dual action next Friday with back-to-back matchups against Embry-Riddle (Ariz.) and Simon Fraser (B.C.). Both will be hosted by Warner Pacific in Portland.

With eight consecutive wins, they're working on their longest streak going unbeaten in their last 16 duals of the 2008-09 season.
