SOU forces 38 turnovers, dominates Corban

SALEM – The 10th-ranked Southern Oregon women's basketball team bullied another opponent, this time the Corban Warriors, in a 79-59 Cascade Conference win on Saturday night at the C.E. Jeffers Center.

The story was the same, but the numbers were more jarring than usual in the ninth straight win for the Raiders (16-1 overall, 8-1 CCC). They forced 38 turnovers – the most for a CCC opponent not named Walla Walla in the last decade – and collected 20 steals, leading for the duration of the game and slowly pulling away after bringing a 10-point lead into halftime.

Senior backcourt mates Toria Bradford and Remi Mejia set the tone, as Mejia scored 17, Bradford scored 15 with five assists, both had five steals and they combined for eight 3-pointers. Mejia went 5-of-12 from beyond the arc, giving her nine makes on the weekend, and Bradford's 3-of-5 night was the most prolific downtown of her career.

The Raiders still only shot 36 percent (26-of-72), but the turnover disparity allowed them to attempt 28 more shots than the Warriors (9-9, 5-6 CCC), who shot at a 46-percent clip. It was the 10th time this season that the Raiders have earned at least 20 more field-goal attempts than their opponent, and the ninth time they've won with an inferior field-goal percentage.

Their bench came through with 34 points, including 31 from its freshmen. Among them, Syd'Nee Fryer scored 10 and Bryanna Raff shot 3-of-4 with eight points and three rebounds.

On the other end, six different Warriors finished with four or more turnovers. Kendra Murphy was one of them, but she also finished with 13 points and 10 rebounds; Jordan Rasberry was not, and she added 12 points.

The Raiders have won nine straight games against Corban overall, and the last six matchups in Salem.
