ATHERTON, Calif. Devin Poppen moved into a tie for second place on Southern Oregon's all-time pins list, but highlights were otherwise hard to come by as the 10th-ranked Raiders lost to No. 11 Menlo (Calif.), 38-9, with a shorthanded lineup Friday night at Haynes Prim Pavilion.

Poppen, the NAIA's No. 2-ranked wrestler at 141 pounds, logged the 52nd win by fall of his career by taking down Devin Everk in 5:03 to match four-time national champion Brock Gutches in the Raider record book. It was his 14th pin of the season and made him 24-5 overall.

SOU's only other win came from fourth-ranked Hunter Hodges, who at 157 pounds took a 6-1 decision from Kevin James.

The Raiders dropped to 9-5 in dual action and 5-3 against Cascade Conference opponents going into their first home contests of the season, Feb. 3 against Warner Pacific and Eastern Oregon starting at 1 p.m.

The Oaks, who completed their second-ever season sweep of SOU, won three times by fall and once by forfeit. Mikel Perales (125 pounds) pinned Trey Long in the first match of the night, second-ranked Anthony Orozco (174) took care of Cody Stahl in 6:37 and No. 3 Javier Gonzalez (285) got Erik Schwark in 2:07.

Two other Oaks protected their respective national rankings: No. 13 Ian Morken (133) won a 7-3 decision against Matt Peterson and No. 18 Jovan Villalobos (197) beat Alejandro Sandoval, 38-9.

SOU will compete Saturday at the California Collegiate Open, hosted by San Francisco State.
