ASHLAND – The stage is set for the home stretch of the Cascade Conference women's soccer regular season, with the top-five teams separated by four points in the standings.
Southern Oregon (7-2-2 overall, 5-1-1 CCC) is one of them and the Raiders will see another in Northwest (Wash.) (5-6-1, 4-1-1) at 6:30 p.m. Friday at Raider Stadium. The matchup marks the beginning of three-game stretch that will cap SOU's home schedule, and it continues at 7:30 p.m. Saturday against Evergreen (Wash.) (2-9-0, 1-5-0).
HOME HAPPENINGS: The Raiders will wear pink Friday and fans are encouraged to do the same in observation of Breast Cancer Awareness Night. In conjunction with Homecoming weekend, SOU will also be holding its first-ever Alumni/Parent/Fan Beer and Wine Garden Social at Raider Stadium, beginning at 3 p.m. and ending at 7:30 p.m. south of the Raider Stadium grandstand. Appetizers will also be available.
MISTY MADNESS: Redshirt-sophomore forward
Misty Martinez was voted the CCC Offensive Player of the Week on Monday following two more impressive showings in Portland, where SOU scored wins of 9-0 at Multnomah and 3-0 at Warner Pacific. Martinez notched three more goals during the weekend and has now registered game-winners in three straight outings – joining Katie Emerson (2003) and Megan McArthur ('16) as the only players in team history to accomplish the feat. She's up to six goals on the season – with five in her last four games – and owns four game-winners in conference play; no other CCC player has more than two.
DEFENSE HOLDING STRONG: SOU enters the weekend tied for first among CCC teams in goals allowed during conference matches, having conceded just three. Goalkeeper
Kailey Lemon's goals-against average of 0.3 per game (2 in 585 minutes) tops all conference keepers, as does her save average of .900 (18 saves). Including non-conference games, the Raiders have outscored opponents 22-7.
BRIEFLY:
- With two goals and two assists last weekend, senior Makena Totushek now ranks 13th on SOU's career goals list (11) and eighth on the all-time assists list (8). In CCC play, she's No. 8 in the conference in total points (8).
- Junior Mia Volpatti also recorded two goals and two assists last weekend. Over the last two seasons combined, she leads all Raiders with nine goals and seven assists.
- The Raiders are 16-2-1 at home since the start of 2016, including a 4-0-1 mark this year. In those 19 games, they've given up more than one goal on one occasion.
ABOUT NORTHWEST:
- After starting the season 0-5, the Eagles have lost just one of their seven games since and last week scored a key draw against defending CCC champion Eastern Oregon. During conference play, they've allowed just two goals in regulation.
- Katie Michkiosky ranks second in the CCC in points with 11 goals and four assists. Rylee Rassier (5), Whitney Weaver (4) and Sharaya Robers (4) have combined for 13 goals.
- The Eagles are 7-6-2 all-time against the Raiders and won last year's matchup in Kirkland, 2-1. Of the last 12 matches, 10 were decided by one goal and two ended in ties.
ABOUT EVERGREEN:
- The Geoducks scored their lone wins against Mills and Multnomah and have been shut out eight times. In total, they've been outscored 25-10.
- Madison Early (2 assists) and Maddie Lockwood lead the team with three goals apiece.
- SOU is 15-3-3 all-time against the Geoducks and has won the last 10 matchups.
