ASHLAND – The No. 24-ranked Southern Oregon men's soccer team's sturdy back line didn't budge Saturday against Evergreen (Wash.), topping off another dominant weekend with a 1-0 win against the Geoducks at Raider Stadium.
Freshman
Zak Woolley provided the only offense the Raiders (12-2-1 overall, 9-0-1 Cascade Conference) needed in the 35th minute.
Renee Resendez lined up a free kick just outside the box and sent it in the direction of
Yan Pessoa de Oliveira, whose header required a lunging stop by Geoducks keeper Ben Stevenson. Stevenson didn't get a handle on the ball, however, and Woolley nudged it past the line for his third goal of the season.
The defense did the rest in SOU's 10th shutout during a 13-game unbeaten streak.
Wyatt Zabinski got the credit with three saves – a night after he didn't need to make any against Northwest (Wash.) – and the Geoducks (7-3-1, 4-3-1) put just one shot on goal in the second half, never seriously threatening while getting out-muscled in the box.
The Geoducks came in unbeaten in six of their last seven games, including Friday's 4-0 win at Oregon Tech. They'd not previously lost to SOU in three matchups since 2015.
The Raiders have given up only one goal in six home games and haven't lost at Raider Stadium in 13 straight since the start of last year.
The game-winner was Woolley's first. Nine different Raiders have contributed game-winners this season.
SOU went two games ahead of Corban in first place, but the No. 15 Warriors have played two fewer games.
The Raiders will conclude their home schedule at 4 p.m. next Saturday against Oregon Tech.
