Raiders settle for tie with Providence in 5th straight shutout

GREAT FALLS, Mont. – The 14th-ranked Southern Oregon men's soccer team didn't come away empty-handed Friday from Providence (Mont.), settling on a scoreless draw, but the Raiders set themselves up to need a little more Sunday at Carroll (Mont.).

The Raiders (13-2-2 overall, 10-0-2 Cascade Conference) came into the final weekend of the regular season needing four points for the outright CCC title and three to clinch a share. Therefore, the one point they salvaged against the Argos (7-5-3, 6-3-3) puts them in must-win position when they travel to Helena to face the Saints.

Second-place Corban (12-2-1, 9-1-1) had yet to play at the time of publication but will be heavily favored in its matchups this weekend at home against Multnomah and Warner Pacific.

SOU, which has gone 15 games without a loss, ran into a stingy Argos team that is now unbeaten in seven of its last eight games and has tied three of its last four.

Still, the Raiders posted advantages of 17-3 in shots, 5-2 in shots on goal and 7-1 in corner kicks.

The shutout was their fifth in a row and 12th of the season. In nine of those, they've needed to make three or fewer saves.

The latest went to Wyatt Zabinksi, who has 10 solo shutouts this year.

Match time for Sunday is slated for 11 a.m. Mountain Time.
