ASHLAND – The No. 10-ranked Southern Oregon volleyball team posted a .480 attacking average, its highest in six years, and rolled through Evergreen (Wash.) by scores of 25-20, 25-15 and 25-10 on Friday night at Lithia Motors Pavilion.
The first-place Raiders (22-2 overall, 15-2 Cascade Conference) did it with 43 kills on 75 swings with only seven errors.
Taylor Ristvedt accumulated 12 of them on 19 attacks,
Malie Rube had nine on 13, and
Dani Johnson added seven without an error in addition to a team-high 13 digs.
SOU entered the night with a .290 attack that ranked fourth in the NAIA on the season. Against the Geoducks (10-16, 8-9) it spiked six points.
The last time the Raiders had such an outing was Sept. 8, 2012 at Concordia, where they hit .490. On that night, they put down 52 kills with only three errors out of 100 attacks.
The Geoducks never led. They got an outstanding effort out of Chloee Hunt, who recorded 12 kills on 19 swings, but in the opening set committed six service errors that neutralized their .357 attack.
That bought the Raiders time to heat up. From set to set, they went from .391 to .483 to. 565. Ristvedt and
Makayla Hoyt combined for nine kills on 13 attacks in the second and
Malie Rube led the way with five kills on six tries in the third.
Natalie James had 20 assists and
Hannah Bogatin 17.
The Raiders will conclude their regular-season home schedule at 5 p.m. Saturday against Northwest (Wash.), which was responsible for their first loss of the season.
