COMPLETE TOURNAMENT RESULTS
FOREST GROVE –
Justin Acuff reached the 141-pound semifinals and finished fourth place to highlight the Southern Oregon men's wrestling team's efforts Sunday at the Mike Clock Open.
Acuff started the day with a first-round pin of Southwestern Oregon's Michael Medina and a 9-5 win over Eastern Oregon's Tyler Miller. After dropping a semifinal by technical fall to Joey Palmer, Acuff reached the third-place match by pinning Clackamas' Ricardo Solorio in 1:13. He was ultimately defeated by Oregon State's Conner Noonan, 3-1.
Zac Wigzell also stayed alive for most of the afternoon at 141 with three consecutive consolation wins, including an 8-1 decision over Llimy Garcia and a 13-0 major decision against Washington State's Nathan Perrine.
Redshirt-freshman
JJ Talavera, wrestling at 157 pounds, was the other Raider to advance to a quarterfinal match with back-to-back tech falls – 17-2 over Warner Pacific's Chas Peterson and 19-1 over Highline's Patrick Wheeler. After being sent to the consolation bracket by Clackamas' Braedon Orrino, he finished with a 14-6 major decision over Max Welsh and a 13-11 win against Eastern Oregon's Keegan Mulhill.
Heavyweight
Ryland Boyer added three consolation wins, including pins of Southwestern Oregon's Abraham Mamizuka (57 seconds) and Grays Harbor's Austin Riehl (1:43).
Cedrus King (149) contributed two more pins against Eastern Oregon's Clay Johnson (4:31) and Warner Pacific's Aaron Vang (1:52).
The Raiders will have duals Wednesday in Redding, Calif., against Simpson and Sacramento City.
