Holmes joins 1,000-point club as SOU dominates Antelope Valley

KLAMATH FALLS – Senior guard Tristen Holmes' personal milestone coincided with No. 22 Southern Oregon's highest-quality win of the season Saturday afternoon, an 88-67 drubbing of defending Cal Pac Conference champion Antelope Valley (Calif.) at the Lithia-Oregon Tech Classic.

Holmes led the Raiders (7-1 overall) with 18 points and in the process became the 21st player to join SOU's 1,000-point club, bring his four-year total to 1,009 with a 6-of-12 performance from the field.

Jordan Hunt contributed 17 points, seven rebounds and four blocks and Kaj Bansen and Tate Hoffman poured in three 3-pointers each as SOU raced out to a 10-point halftime lead and never looked back.

Up 66-56 with nine minutes left, a put-back and 3-pointer by Matt Boudreaux on consecutive possessions started a 9-0 run that put the game away.

A night earlier, the Pioneers lost a one-point decision against Oregon Tech, missing a pair of free throws with less than a second to go. Christian Drayton helped them through the quick turnaround with 20 points and 13 rebounds, but they were collectively held to 32-percent shooting in the first half and misfired on all six of their 3-point attempts in the second.

SOU freshmen Teron Bradford and Kiefer Edwards helped out with nine points each. Bradford added four rebounds, three assists and two steals and Edwards pulled down four boards.

As a team, the Raiders shot 48 percent (29-of-61) with 11 3-pointers and just nine turnovers.

They'll be on the road for their final pre-Cascade Conference tune-ups next week, Tuesday at UC Merced and Friday at Menlo (Calif.).
