Brantley's 33 points help No. 16 Menlo defeat Raiders

ATHERTON, Calif. – Aliyah Brantley poured in 33 points and 11 rebounds to drive Menlo (Calif.), the No. 16-ranked team at the NAIA Division I level, to a 99-75 defeat of Southern Oregon on Wednesday afternoon at Haynes-Prim Pavilion.

Brantley's point total was the highest for a Raider opponent in six years. The 6-foot-1 senior post shot 15-of-21 from the field and scored 21 of those in the first half, helping the Oaks improve to 5-0.

The 12th-ranked Raiders (3-2) cut the deficit to 51-46 when Kenadee Honaker opened the third quarter with a 3-pointer but got no closer. They were outscored 31-20 during a fourth quarter in which the Oaks shot 68 percent from the field, bringing their overall clip to 56 percent (39-of-70).

SOU senior forward Destinee Jones scored a team-high 12 points. Ariel Augustine and Syd Fryer both recorded 11 points and four rebounds, and Daranda Hinkey scored nine.

The Oaks accumulated 44 points in the paint. Destinee Bowie, their other starting post, added 16 points and 10 rebounds.

The Raiders will face another NAIA Div. I opponent receiving Top 25 votes, Lewis-Clark State (Idaho), in their home-opener Friday. Tipoff is set for 1 p.m.
