SOU splits again on Day 2 of NAIA SoCal Classic

*This story has been updated with statistics that were provided Sunday morning.

WEST COVINA, Calif.
Harlee Donovan's walk-off hit with one out in the bottom of the seventh inning gave No. 3 Southern Oregon a 3-2 win over La Sierra (Calif.) as the Raiders salvaged a split at the NAIA SoCal Classic for the second day in a row Saturday at the Big League Dreams complex.

In their first game, the Raiders (5-3 overall) lost 11-2 to Hope International (Calif.), which scored six in the second, three in the third and two more in the fourth to trigger the mercy rule and improve to 8-1.

The Royals tapped SOU starter Karlee Coughlin for six hits and two walks in the second to blow it open. Ally Painter went 2-for-3 with three RBI and a run scored, Destiney Fierro had two hits, three runs and two RBI, and Taylor Pierce threw a six-hit complete game.

Gabby Sandoval's strong start helped SOU rebound against La Sierra (1-5-1), striking out six and yielding six hits over seven innings. She kept the Golden Eagles scoreless over the last five frames and worked around a leadoff double during a tie game in the top of the seventh.

Freshman second baseman Hannah Shimek went 3-for-4 with a double. She hit a run-scoring single in the second, scored on Hannah Wessel's sacrifice fly to tie it in the fifth, and with one out in the seventh reached on an error. Donovan was next up, and her drive down the right-field line scored Shimek from first base.

The win made Sandoval 2-2 on the season.
