#6 Eastern Oregon fends off SOU's upset attempt

LA GRANDE – The sixth-ranked Eastern Oregon women's basketball team completed its undefeated run through the Cascade Conference with an 82-68 defeat of No. 10 Southern Oregon on Saturday night at Quinn Coliseum.

In the regular-season finale for both teams, a Remi Meji 3-pointer to start the fourth quarter got SOU within 67-63 of the Mountaineers, but the Raiders missed 12 of 13 field-goal attempts the rest of the way. EOU (27-2 overall, 20-0 CCC) became the third team ever to finish the conference regular season unscathed a night after clinching the title outright.

The Raiders (25-3, 17-3) were already locked into the No. 2 seed in the CCC tournament when the night began. They'll open it against seventh-seeded Warner Pacific, tipping off at 8:30 p.m. Tuesday at Mountain Avenue Gym.

EOU's Mariah Swanson scored a game-high 21 points with nine rebounds. Maya Ah You-Dias added 16 points, Payton Parris had 15 and nine rebounds, and both hit three 3-pointers. The Mounties went 29-of-63 from the field and in the first quarter shot 5-of-11 from 3 to go up 15 points, eventually taking a 50-32 lead into halftime.

Mejia's 16 points and six assists led SOU. Toria Bradford had 11 points, four assists and three steals, and Ariel Augustine totaled 13 points and 10 rebounds for her second double-double.

If the Raiders can advance on Tuesday, they'd also host a semifinal game at 8:30 p.m. Friday.
