SOU eliminated by #4 Yotes, 67-50

CALDWELL, Idaho – The No. 4-ranked College of Idaho wouldn't let Southern Oregon over the hump in the semifinal round of the Cascade Conference Tournament presented by U.S. Bank, pulling away for a 67-50 victory Saturday night at the J.A. Albertson Center.

Raider forward Jordan Hunt scored 16 points on 8-of-13 shooting, and his jump-hook with 11:34 to play cut what had been a 12-point deficit at halftime to five. But the Yotes (26-6 overall) initiated a run of 13 unanswered points at the other end, going 8-of-9 at the free-throw line and getting a key Gibson Berryhill 3-pointer during the spurt.

The Yotes, seeded No. 1 in the tournament, advanced to host No. 2 seed Warner Pacific in Tuesday's championship game. Both teams have now secured the CCC's automatic bids to the NAIA Division II National Tournament.

SOU's season is likely over. At 20-12, the Raiders were receiving votes in the latest Top 25 poll but are a longshot to receive an at-large bid when the 32-team field is announced on Wednesday.

If they're left out, the loss marked the end of the road for two fourth-year Raider seniors – guard Ben DeSaulnier and Kenny Meyer. Both recorded eight points and three assists against the Yotes, and they combined for five steals. DeSaulnier ran his career total to 2,019 points, the second-most in school history, and Meyer finished with 1,025 points and 359 assists, becoming the first player in team history to go over 1,000 and 300.

DeSaulnier and Meyer also accumulated 88 career wins, helping SOU to two national tournament appearances.

Though the Raiders held the Yotes to 41-percent shooting, they sat at a pedestrian 38-percent clip and shot just 3-of-5 at the free-throw line, where C of I went 15-of-19.

Tristen Holmes chipped in six points and nine rebounds for SOU. Roosevelt Adams and Talon Pinckney scored 14 apiece to lead C of I.
