The Master's tops stuns SOU on last-second penalty kick

ATHERTON, Calif. – The Master's University (Calif.) forward Trevor Mangan converted a penalty kick with one second left in the second overtime period, making the Mustangs 3-2 winners against Southern Oregon on Saturday afternoon at Wunderlich Field.

One of the more stunning heartbreaks the Raiders have endured was set up when Mangan was tripped up in the box with three seconds left. Officials called the foul but time expired as they didn't formally signal for the clock to stop. After a brief meeting cleared up the confusion, one second was put back on the clock and Mangan made it count.

The loss spoiled the first collegiate goals for Raider freshmen Noah Addie and Zak Woolley. The Raiders (0-2) fell behind on Dylan Bielanski's goal in the 17th minute, but came back to take a 2-1 lead as Renee Resendez assisted Addie in the 26th and Zac Hansen set up Woolley in the 77th.

The advantage lasted just four minutes, however, as Matthew Logan scored on Luis Garcia Sosa's corner kick for the equalizer.

It was SOU's first loss in eight overtime games dating back to 2016.

The Mustangs improved to 2-0. They were mostly even statistically with 16 shots to SOU's 15 and a matching six shots on goal.

SOU returns home for its first game at Raider Stadium on Sept. 1 against William Jessup (Calif.).
